VYBZ KARTEL TELLS SCHOOL YOUTHS “DON’T BLEACH YUH FACE

New Song “School Anthem 2” Released in time for New School Year in Jamaica
ALSO ADMONSIHES STUDENTS ABOUT “pants on the ground,” DRUG USE AND ABUSE, TEENAGE PREGNANCY AND TRUANCY IN THEIR SCHOLASTICS
Princeton University, World Championships Silver Medalist Warren Weir, French Football Star Florent Malouda, Doctors, Professors, Lawyers amongst those giving Kartel book and music accolades in interviews, social media and articles
In January, Vybz Kartel business partner Michael Dawson, revealed that Kartel told him in a December visit at Horizon Remand Center, “I will be the man that will have the most positive effect on Jamaica since Marcus Garvey.” Many laughed and accused Dawson of misrepresenting or misunderstanding him. However, with the recent comments from the Ivy League School Princeton University’s Librarian about his book, his song with Gaza Slim about preventing Child Abuse and now his timely “School Anthem Part 2” – it seems like Vybz Kartel is achieving his mission whilst still behind bars! Many are now wondering what will happen in November when most Jamaicans believe he will be exonerated as there is now a popular notion that his incarceration was an attempt of silencing the ghetto’s most influential persona.
Ironically, some of the same parents who were telling their children to not listen to Kartel just two years ago are not only buying their children his book, paying to download his recent CD and now asking “you hear what Vybz Kartel say – do you work, pull up pants and no drugs and sex while you in school.” The question now is will the Ministries of Youth and Education let go off their biases against a man that has never been convicted of a crime in Jamaica and allow a voice that the children can understand pass on these important messages? Dawson is still doubtful as he explained “Addi and I share the belief that the politicians and powers that be do not want the poor class to elevate themselves as that will destroy the slavish society which overworks and underpays our people. I have heard uptown people say ‘if we have 100% literacy in Jamaica – who going cut the lawn and wash the clothes?’ so from the moment Vybz Kartel sang Dolla Sign, Adidja Palmer became a threat to society; so no, they will fight Vybz Kartel and keeping trying to silence him.”
Now that Kartel has finally made a public statement in song telling the youths to not bleach their skin – will the media, society and the system give him his due? Or do they fear him so much that he will still be locked up and denied bail even though he can never hide as he is one of the most recognizable figures in Jamaica whose simple visit to the doctor went viral throughout the world on social media? Interesting days are ahead with rumors of an e-book release and a new cover for his massively successful book swirling around.

Vybz Kartel's Book Gets Princeton Endorsement

ENDORSED: Vybz Kartel's book has been added to the libraries at Princeton University
THE VOICE Of The Jamaican Ghetto, a book authored by controversial dancehall artist Vybz Kartel, has won surprising endorsement after it was added to libraries at Princeton University.
Princeton University is regarded by many as one of the most prestigious tertiary institutions in the world, and is often compared with Harvard in debates about the best universities in the United States of America.
The university has one of the most robust matriculation criteria globally, and currently serves as the alma mater of former US presidents, John F. Kennedy, who later transferred to Harvard, James Madison and Woodrow Wilson.
America's first African-American First Lady, Michelle Obama, also studied at Princeton University before pursuing law at Harvard Law School.
Princeton's endorsement now means that The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto has received its highest honour yet, and international media outlets like Hot 97 FM have already done features on Kartel and his co-author and business associate, Michael Dawson.
Ironically, in September of last year, merchandising manager at Whirlwind Entertainment Group Limited, Aisha Stewart, told The Sunday Gleaner that some local stores were rejecting the book. She also disclosed that of all the places globally where she distributed the books, the Jamaican merchants were the hardest to market the book to.
SHOWING INTEREST
Stewart also pointed out, however, that places like Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Bulgaria, Chile and Amsterdam were showing an interest in The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto.
Professor Carolyn Cooper was perhaps one of the few local believers in the book, begging for the book to be added to Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) readings.
The professor outlined that the book gave a clear insight into the deadly conditions endured by youths who are barely surviving on the fringes of Jamaican society.
However, she too, came under fire from some critics who felt the CXC should stay away from the work of Vybz Kartel.

Dawson, the operator of Ghetto People Publishing, called it an honour to have received endorsement from such a prestigious institution.
He also pointed out that there has been significant improvements locally where acceptance of the book is concerned.
"All major book stores - Sangster's, Kingston Book Shop, LMH, both airports, I-Nation, Bookophilia and Bookland - have carried the book. Uptown stores and religious book stores refused it out of ignorance, I believe, and we expected that," he said.
The author also revealed that he and Kartel had received several invitations to international universities to give lectures; however, those offers would be visited next year.
As it relates to the stigma placed on the book by some Jamaicans, Dawson believes this is merely an attempt to hide the truth. He said the book was written for Jamaican people, and despite its international validation, the victory remains bitter sweet because the intended audience is yet to effectively receive the message.
"I am a person that received an offer for a Congressional Medal of Distinction from President Bush at the White House but refused that. Instead, I came to Jamaica and accepted the Marcus Garvey Award from the UNIA at Devon House. So I chose Devon House and Marcus Garvey above President Bush and the White House. I am about my people and while not looking for accolades, I just don't want them to be denied this book," Dawson said.
Dawson also said the achievement could not be celebrated properly while Kartel still lingers behind bars, because the success is a result of a combined effort.
Kartel has been in custody since September 2011, and informed The Gleaner in a letter sent in May that he was already writing a follow-up to The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto.

Vybz Kartel Speaks On Book Being At Princeton, I Am Not Surprised

Vybz Kartel Speaks On Book Being At Princeton, I Am Not Surprised

Last week the book’s co-author, Michael Dawson, told Urban Islandz that Princeton University among other tertiary institutions in the United Stateshave stocked the book in their libraries.

DETAILS: Vybz Kartel Book Now Sits In Princeton University’s Library
In a statement released to Urban Islandz, Vybz Kartel says he is not surprised by the significant achievement.
This is what Vybz Kartel said:
I AM NOT SURPRISED THAT THE BOOK HAS MADE IT TO THESE PRESTIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS OF HIGHER LEARNING. I IN FACT TOLD MICHAEL THAT IT WOULD GRACE THE SHELVES OF “FARIN”SCHOOLS LONG BEFORE JAMAICA’S EDUCATIONSYSTEM EVEN LOOKED AT IT.
SUFFICE TO SAY THE UPPER ECHELONS OF JAMAICAN SOCIETY DISREGARDED THE BOOKEVEN BEFORE READING IT, INDICATIVE OF THE SUBJECTIVE STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS THAT EXISTS WITHIN OUR SHORES. COMPARATIVELY THOUGH, ONE ALSO HAS TO REMEMBER THAT MARCUS GARVEY, ONE OF THE GREATEST INTELLECTUAL MINDS OF THE 20th CENTURY HAD GARNERED IMMENSE RESPECT AND POWER ABROAD YEARS BEFORE HE WAS EVEN “LOOKED AT” IN JAMAICA AND I UNDOUBTEDLY THINK THAT I AM NO DIFFERENT IN THIS ASPECT. HOWEVERTHE BOOK IS NOW IN THE POSSESSION OF TRUE INTELLECTUALS WHO APPRECIATE WHAT MICHAEL AND I HAVE DONE TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE REAL ISSUES AFFECTING POST COLONIAL JAMAICA.
FINALLY I HAVE TO SAY “RESPECT” TO THE (very) FEW JAMAICAN SUPPORTERS OF “THE VOICE” NOTABLY PROFESSOR CAROLYN COOPER AND PROFESSOR LOUIS MOYSTON, ALSO TO MY COMMON LAW WIFE TANESHA “SHORTY” JOHNSON FOR HER WELL NEEDED SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT. THANK YOU.
P.S. the preceding statement was Adidja Palmer. Now the controversial Vybz Kartel would like to add that ” If a fassy nuh like mi….”
